What You'll Do:
We are looking for an experienced Senior manager to join the Controllership team, reporting to the Global Controller, to lead technical accounting for Criteo with a strong focus on revenue recognition. The role will be key in supporting our strategy of becoming the leading Commerce Media Platform with a significant expansion of its products and through M&A activity.
You will be in charge of:
- Partnering with various stakeholders incl. deal desk, Legal and FP&A to review non-standard transactions to ensure compliance with US GAAP and Criteo’s policies
- Partnering with the Global Controller and CFO to identify and analyze complex accounting matters incl. segments, business combinations, intangibles, treasury, etc
- Act as a key player for closing and reporting, including ownership of some SOX controls
- Define the accounting curriculum of our controllership and finance teams
The successful candidate will have a strong accounting background, curiosity to learn new areas in a timely manner and the ability to partner and work closely with the CFO and various leaders across Finance, Legal and other departments.
Missions:
Accounting Matter and policies
- Partner w/ CFO and GC to identify and prepare position papers on various accounting matters
- Track "unusual events" of the quarter to ensure proper identification and documentation (tracker)
- Lead complex accounting assessments such as business combinations, restructuring, impairments, etc
- Identify and ensure compliance for Critical Accounting Estimates and Policies (as per 10-K disclosure)
- Provide guidance on several accounting topics (incl. presentation) on various areas mainly Treasury, UTP, Provisions and various risks
- Identify and review new US GAAP, IFRS and SEC Standards to ensure compliance and readiness
- Build and write comprehensive accounting policies and partner with the Operational Controller to create the accounting portal
Revenue Recognition
- Partner w/ Deal Desk and FP&A teams to identify non-standard revenue transactions
- Provide technical advisory of customer contracts for appropriate accounting treatment for revenue recognition in accordance with Criteo’ policy and U.S. GAAP (ASC 606)
- Review contracts and prepare ASC 606 checklists
- Partner with the billings and collections team to ensure quality of billings in support of quality revenue recognition
- Maintain a quarterly dashboard to disaggregate revenues by product lines to ensure compliance w/ ASC 606 disaggregation of revenues
- Assess revenue recognition of new products
Closing and Reporting / Controls incl. SOX and Internal Reporting
- Owner of non-standard revenue deal process and control
- Going concern and quarterly impairment trigger assessment
- Completeness and accuracy of the accounting treatment for non-standard transactions
- New US GAAP applicable standard assessment
- New IFRS applicable on an annual basis
- Goodwill impairment test
- Business combination: PPA and valuation of the intangibles and Regulation SX requirements and accounting reconciliation / booking
- Summarize non-standards event of the month/quarter for the Closing CFO meetings and Audit Committee
Coaching/Leadership
- Provide guidance and support to various stakeholders in the finance team when it comes to accounting matters (go-to person)
- Define contemporary training plan for accounting / controllership teams and engages w/ 3rd party providers to deliver training plan
- Coach one resource with a potential to further expand especially in the area of revenue recognition
Who You Are:
- Bachelor s degree in Accounting (CPA or MBA preferred)
- Significant experience (7+ years) in dealing with technical accounting matters working in a combination of auditing and revenue accounting operations
- Proven ability to interpret and apply accounting guidance and prepare formal, well-supported, memos and supporting analyses
- Displays a curious mind to look at matters across different angles by leveraging his/her network and various resources and benchmarking vs. best practices.
- Knowledge and understanding of current revenue recognition guidance for enterprise software and SaaS arrangements (eg. "ASC 606" or “IFRS 15”).
- Experience in working with Sales to assist with deal negotiations, providing guidance to ensure deal structures and commercial terms result in contracts which meet company policy and objectives
- Highly organized, exceptional attention to detail, results-driven, and able to prioritize in a changing environment
- Experience in performing control activities in the lead-to-cash process. For example: review and approval documentation, deal checklists etc.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills with clear ability to articulate complex matters in a simple and concise way
- Highly motivated, diligent, collaborative, personable, and capable of working independently
- Native (or equivalent) English and French is a plus
- Experience in advertising technology, advertising, Saas industry is a strong plus
